Child Passenger Safety Program
Safe Kids Cherokee County has certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians that are available to inspect your child's car safety seat free of charge. We have resources available to assist those that need to obtain a child safety seat. We do ask for a small donation from the recipient to be applied toward any seat we distribute. Appointments are necessary to meet with a technician at a location in Cherokee County. If you need multiple car seats inspected, have a need for more than one car seat or have multiple cars, a 45-minute appointment should be scheduled for each car seat or each car. You must bring your child with you so that we can ensure you have or obtain the correct child safety seat, ensure the proper fit of the child in the child safety seat and adjust the harness level in the child safety seat.
Fire and Burn (Scald) Safety
Injuries from burns and fires can be some of the most painful and severe that a child can suffer. Fortunately, most of these injuries can be prevented by easily modifying your home and teaching your family what to do in case of a fire emergency. Safe Kids Cherokee County provided a variety of educational and demonstration programs to raise awareness with parents of ways to prevent injuries from fires, burns, and scalds. Safe Kids Cherokee County works with fire fighters, community leaders, and educators to spread the message of fire safety in schools and other events around the county.

Home Safety
Each year in the United States, more than 2,200 children die at home from unintentional injuries. Safe Kids Cherokee County’s home safety program intersects with several of the other programs currently offered. This includes prevention of burns and fires, as well as water safety, and safety around the home and on playgrounds. The home safety programs are also designed to address prevention of poisonings and falls.
Poison Safety
Sometimes, children get into things they probably shouldn’t. In and ARound Cars (Hyperthermia)
We live very busy lives, and our cars are an important and vital part of making it all happen. For some, they’re practically a member of the family. With a little information and a few simple steps, you can keep your children safe and sound in and around cars from the time they’re in their first car seat to the time they get behind the wheel.

Bike and Pedestrian Safety Program
Bikes are a classic symbol of childhood recreation, transportation, and health. It is estimated that more than 70% of children ages 5-14 (27.7 million) ride bicycles. Also, child participation in other wheel-based sports, such as skateboarding and inline skating, has grown exponentially over the last decade.

Water Safety Program
Safe Kids Cherokee County focuses our water safety efforts around Lake Allatoona through a partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers. USACE Park Rangers provide water and boating safety instruction through “Ranger Cards” a unique program which allows Park Rangers to distribute water and boating safety instruction by their personalized trading card with safety information on the back. The trading cards are collected by youth visitors at the lake from various Rangers. When they collect certain amounts, the youth can trade them for prizes. Prizes include beach towels, beach balls, life jackets and more. Upon request, Rangers go into the schools to teach water and boating safety in the classrooms.
